Why Having A Healthy Functioning Thyroid Is Crucial To Your Fitness Goal

Hello everyone, when most people make the decision to live a healthier life style and reach their fitness goals not everyone knows exactly what to eat or how much to eat. Some people can run into a big common misconception that they think eating less or eating extremely small portions will help them get to their goal faster and become healthier over all. This huge misconception that numerous people have can take their bodies out of whack. When you do this you run into the risk of missing out on essential nutrients that your body needs in order to perform at it's best. Starving yourself or eating extremely small portions without including the essential nutrients for your body can get one very important part of your body called your thyroid unregulated. In today’s blog I am going to tell you why having a healthy functioning thyroid is crucial to your fitness goal and the affects of having problems with your thyroid.

Your thyroid is a large gland located in the neck that has a butterfly shape. It secretes hormones regulating growth and development through the rate of metabolism ( "so yea a heck of a big deal" ). There are two main types of thyroid problems  hypothyroidism is when your thyroid is under active and hyperthyroidism is when your thyroid is over active.

Symptoms of hyperthyroidism

  • Loss of hair or thin hair

  •  Feeling weak or muscle weakness

  • Unexplainable weight loss or rapid weight loss

  • Racing heart

  • Trouble sleeping

  • Unexplainable nervousness or anxiety

  • Large amounts or perspiration

Symptoms of hypothyroidism

  • Brain fog or hard time concentrating and forgetfulness

  • Muscle weakness, aches or pains

  • Bloating, constipation and other digestive problems

  • Rapid or Unexplainable weight gain

There are foods that can help if you have an affected thyroid like wild caught fish that is filled with healthy fats, green veggies like asparagus and Brussels sprouts, mushrooms, coconut oil, water and fiber foods. You can also take an omega 3 supplement and probiotics, pretty much anything that is beneficial to the body and that will help you maintain good health. So why not have the essential nutrients for your thyroid their only going to help you get to your fitness goal faster because you wont have all those set backs and help you be the healthiest version of you anyway.
