Do Fats Make You FAT?

Hello ladies, when we think about losing body fat the first thing that pops into our mind is that we should stop eating foods that have lots of FAT in them. Some might think that by not eating fats they would lose weight quicker, but is that true? If you stopped eating Fats Would you really lose weight? There are three different types of fats in our diets, unsaturated fats, Saturated fats and Trans fats. All three of them have different properties, and play different roles in our bodies. So do we need Fats in our diet?

YES Ladies we do, not incorporating enough fats in our diets will prevent us from actually losing body fat because our bodies become more efficient at burning carbohydrates for energy instead of stored body fat. Keeping our bodies in a fat deprived state will make it want to hoard on to the body fat making it harder to get rid of. By not having enough Fats, we are basically dieting to Stay FAT. Now that we know how important fats are in our diets, where can we get them from?

Healthy Fats (Unsaturated Fats) :

  • Mono Unsaturated fats: Peanuts, Peanut butter, sesame oil and nuts etc…

  • Poly unsaturated fats: Walnuts, sunflower seed and wild caught salmon etc…

Healthy Fats are an essential nutrient for the body, it contributes to the building blocks of cell membranes and varieties of hormones that help you build muscle and burn fat. They are a good source of energy and help your body absorb vitamins and minerals. Healthy fats help pad our organs and insulate our bodies, it raises our HDL (good cholesterol) while lowering our LDL (bad cholesterol).

Saturated fats:

  • Poultry, Dairy (Milk and Cheese),Red meats, Sea food etc…

Then you have saturated fats, which can be healthy in moderation they help raise your good cholesterol but also raise your bad cholesterol. When your bad cholesterol is too high it affects the coronary artery of the heart creating a solid fatty plaque in the artery preventing blood flow to the heart and leading up to a heart attack. That’s why it’s important that you don’t overdo it with saturated fats and also it’s very important that when consuming saturated fats from an animal or dairy product you go for organic, grass fed or wild caught. Many regular farm raised animals are fed a very poor and unnatural diet which causes the animals fat to be unhealthy instead of healthy.

Trans Fats:

  • Corn oil, butter, margarine etc…

Then you have the Worst of the WORST Trans Fat which are just bad all around. Trans fats raise your Bad cholesterol while lowering your good cholesterol this can lead up to a heart attack or stroke. Trans Fats are usually found in most foods made in fast food restaurants and most of the snack like foods that have a very long shelf life. Ladies BEWARE of foods that have Hydrogenated oil as one of the ingredients, eating too much of this unhealthy fat can clog your arteries, make you insulin resistant, and contribute to diabetes.

So ladies I leave you with this tip: Healthy fats are essential to the body and should be a major component in your diet. Everyone’s daily fat intake is different depending on their fitness goals.
